At this breakfast briefing Matthew Hudson, will give an overview on the progress of his work towards better regulation in food and health. The better regulation agenda aims to ensure that; decision-making is open and transparent, citizens and stakeholders can contribute throughout the policy and law‑making process, EU actions are based on evidence and understanding of the impacts and regulatory burdens on businesses, citizens or public administrations are kept to a minimum.

Director for Resource Management and Better Regulation, DG SANTE | European Commission

Matthew Hudson was appointed Director for Resource management and better regulation in DG Health and food safety in February 2016. He joined the European Commission in 1993, and has served in a variety of posts in DG Agriculture and DG Health and Consumers, working on issues including: international veterinary and phytosanitary questions; the WTO Agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures; institutional relations; resource management, better regulation; crisis management and business continuity planning. Prior to the Commission, he joined the United Kingdom civil service in 1979, his last post being from 1989-1993 to the United Kingdom Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. Matthew was born in 1957. He was educated in England at Cranleigh School, and at Newcastle University.
