Patron Dinner: EU Budget after Brexit

Siegfried Muresan is the European Parliament’s rapporteur for the general budget of the European Union for 2018. As Vice Chair of the Committee on Budgets and Substitute Member in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs MEP Muresan has expert insight into what the threats and opportunities for the future of the EU budget are. Brexit remains a pertinent topic in relation to the EU budget. The Multi-Annual Financial Framework of 2014-2020 requires the UK to keep its share of commitments to the EU budget until the year 2020.

Birgit Sippel has just been appointed rapporteur on the e-Privacy regulation, taking over from Marju Lauristin. At this event she will provide an overview of where the legislation now stands with the first draft being released in June 2017.She will also cover how she envisions the ePrivacy Regulation working in coordination with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is set to be implemented in May 2018.

Overview of the Copyright Directive with rapporteur Axel Voss MEP

Since taking over the lead on the copyright reform from Therese Comodini Cachia, Axel Voss has distanced himself from her efforts and reverted to supporting the Commission’s proposals. This includes the contested articles on “censorship machines” for file uploads, an extra copyright for news sites and the very limited scope of a proposed text and data mining exception. The JURI committee is scheduled to vote on the amendments to report in January. Axel Voss will lead us through the report at this evening briefing.
